Infrastructure Expert; Former Secretary General of COMESA, Senior Partner – Industrial Policy reforms.
Sindiso Ngwenya is a former Secretary-General of the Common Market for Eastern and
Southern Africa (COMESA); a position he held from 2008 to 2018 when he retired after serving the statutory two five-year terms. Prior to his appointment as Secretary General, he occupied the position of Assistant Secretary General of COMESA in charge of Programmes for a period of ten years, overseeing the development of policies, implementation of COMESA multi sectorial Programmes.
Mr. Sindiso also supervised the operations of COMESA established institutions which include but are not limited to the COMESA Competition Commission, COMESA Infrastructure Fund, COMESA Business Council, Leather and Leather Product Institute (LLPI), the Clearing House and the Regional Investment Agency.
He has also served as a member of several Boards of regional and multilateral institutions, in the capacity of Chairman and Vice Chairman. He has over 30 years of service in industry, regional and multilateral levels covering the public sector, private sector and quasi-government institutions. He has edited two books on transport and communications and public service and is a regular contributor to several publications on economic cooperation and integration. He is author of the forthcoming book on “Agriculture Transformation in Africa through Cross Sectoral Alliances”. He is a senior partner and an industrialization policy reforms experts with AI-Group Inc. heading the Logistics and Regional Transport Infrastructure support unit, where the group is responsible in drawing investment and corporate buy-ins on a number of the Group’s strategic projects.
