Trade Economist, Senior Partner – Trade Facilitation

Johansein is a trade economist specialized in the field of regional trade, investment and business development in East, Southern and Eastern Africa. He has extensive knowledge of industrial policy and trade development in Tanzania with experience in policy formulation and analysis. He is particularly familiar with the national and regional business and investment environment and has extensively published research in these fields. In fact, he has conducted various trade consultancies and research encompassing national strategy plans, market analysis and policy development covering Tanzania’s private sector and industrialization, FDI flows, competitiveness and productivity in various sectors.

His experience working with various international (UNIDO) and regional institutions such as the East Africa Community Secretariat, Southern Africa Development Community Secretariat as well as national ministries – including the Ministry of Industry and Trade – gives him specific insights into the Tanzanian legal and regulatory framework.

He has been intensely engaged in number of works involving regional integration, trade facilitation, industrial policy development in the EAC region, SADC region and the tripartite initiatives, research proposal development and project evaluation.

Further to this, he has been national consultant in various trade consultancy; Youth Think Tank in NEPAD, report writing for General Budget Support (GBS) Annual review 2012; review and preparation of the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty II (NSGRP II)/ MKUKUTA II for the sectors of industry, trade and marketing; Joint Evaluation of EC budget Support to Tanzania 2006-2011; Review of the National Trade Policy 2003; Review of National Mineral policy 2003; Draft of National Gas and Oil Policy 2012; Preparation of Global Competitiveness Report 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 for Tanzania data.
