Industrialization, Trade and Regional Integration Expert, East and Southern Africa, Senior Partner – Regional Integration

Lindani Ndlovuis an industrialisation, trade and regional integration expert base in Gaborone, Botswana. He has over 25 years of professional experience in international development cooperation, industrial and trade development policy, value chain development, international trade advisory services, in Sub-Saharan Africa. Lindani has wide experience including academia, banking and finance, project management as well trade and industrial development policy. As part of the enhancing trade and regional integration, Lindani worked on corridor development with a focus on infrastructure development as an important enabler of trade and economic integration. This involved understanding and familiarity with the PIDA projects on the continent.

He has also carried out several trade and industrial development policy consultancy assignments for leading organizations. Some of the assignments include: identifying growth opportunities and support measures required to facilitate investment in commodity value chains in landlocked developing countries; industrial development in the Tripartite Region for the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite; Team Leader, Trade economist and technical advisor on EU funded trade capacity building programmes and coordination of the development of Uganda’s National Trade Policy and its implementation; developing trade negotiations capacity. Lindani’s work on industrialisation has added experience on value chain development.

In 2017, Lindani carried out a study to develop Regional Trade Policy Guidelines for Cross-Border Infrastructure in the RECs around the African continent.The study emphasised the identification of cross-border infrastructure projects critical for trade already implemented, under implementation, and planned in the RECs; identification of key stakeholders and impacts of projects; analysed critical constraints in relation to capacity. On the basis of findings, he developed guidelines for improved delivery of cross-border infrastructure projects to improve trade in Africa and presented this at a Think Tank Conference in April 2018. This study forms the basis of the design of the Regional Trade Policy for Cross-Border Infrastructure in Africa.

Lindani also has several years of experience in the private sector in Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe and broadly in the SADC region, undertaking economic and business environment research. His experience as Director of Credit and Head of Economics at the PTA Bank focused on project finance lending strengthened knowledge in the sector. Lindani holds masters and PhD degrees from the University of Bradford. He also has training on the Implementation and Management of Industrial and Infrastructure Projects of AI-Group Inc.’s subsidiary and flagship – African Institute for the Development of Infrastructure (AfIDI) and the African University of Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure (AfUIII).
